Between Murano glass and water: “the lagoon monster” is the artistic fountain protagonist of Vision Milan Glass Week
With Forme d’Acqua Venice Fountains the work of art and cleverness “the lagoon monster” becomes the protagonist of Vision Milan Glass Week. The artistic fountain carries Murano glass and the high creativity of the professionals who collaborated in its creation in The Square – Piazza Gae Aulenti, the driving force where the main events, workshops and shows of the event dedicated to the sustainable vision of glass will be held.
In the heart of the Milan’s business center, in the raised area of Piazza Gae Aulenti, renamed The Square for the occasion, from Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th October from 10AM to 10PM, glass will be the protagonist of Vision Milan Glass Week, the collateral event of Vitrum 2021 entirely dedicated to the excellence of glass. For this occasion, Forme d’Acqua Venice Fountains, together with Consorzio Promovetro Murano, brings back to Milan for the second time “the lagoon monster“, the work of art and cleverness created with the involvement of creative, professional and crafts from the Venetian territory, a formidable adventure in which art, design and technology come together. The work had already been exhibited to the public in 2014 at Villa Necchi Campiglio-FAI in the exhibition “The art of glass today in Italy”, curated by Jean Blanchaert, internationally renowned gallery owner and art critic and cultural consultant of the lagoon monster.
After a long journey that took it to the most important art locations, such as the spectacular underground cistern-basilica Yerebatan Sarnici in Istanbul, the Magazzini del Sale in Venice, Bologna Water Design, the Art Museum of city of Ravenna and Villa dei Vescovi-FAI of Padua, the work arrives in the symbolic square of Contemporary Milan. Piazza Gae Aulenti is the stage of a four-day period entirely dedicated to glass, where numerous events, workshops and shows open to the public will be held and they aim to sensitize and actively involve participants of all ages towards a sustainable vision of the world seen through the lens of glass.
An epidermis of 191 Murano glass scales, handcrafted by Master Nicola Moretti, covers the sea creature designed by the architect Simona M. Favrin – FavrinDesign, for which she was inspired by a legend taken from “The Secrets of the Grand Canal” by Alberto Toso Fei. The legend that tells of a smooth and black monster, with a large snake body and a horse’s head, whose dwelling is located in a large cavity located under the waters of Punta della Dogana. The epidermis hides a skeleton in AISI 316 steel and a highly technological soul, made by Forme d’Acqua Venice Fountains, which reproduces the breath and the voice of the monster: its breath caresses the surface of the water and a deep verse, abysmal, frightening echoes among the silences of the seabed, emerging from the sea depths, spreading through the slow and inexorable movement of the waves.
A combination of glass and water, where vibrant and ever-changing tiles, in the form and material potential of this ancient material that draws the strength of continuous renewal from its history.
“In this project, from the very beginning, I questioned myself and all the figures involved, taking on the responsibility of leading the operation to success. – Says Gianluca Orazio, CEO of Forme d’Acqua and project manager of “the lagoon monster” – I have put together a group of extraordinary volunteers, excellences of the territory, who coordinate and encourage them to give their best every day. The network that the monster allowed us to build is extraordinary and precious. This is true enrichment.
Belonging to the monster is for all of us a source of pride and satisfaction, feelings that derive directly from the encounter that we were able to generate.”
With this project, Forme d’Acqua consolidates his working and emotional relationship with the city of Milan, where it has been collaborating for years with architectural firms and companies in the design, construction and restoration of custom-made fountains, a symbol of high Italian craftsmanship. This time in Piazza Gae Aulenti, it brings not only the beauty of its fountains, but also Art, through this timeless work: a marine creature already appreciated by the most authoritative critics and lovers of cultural heritage and destined to travel and resurface in the most important cities in the world to show themselves to the citizens and be admired in all its terrifying splendour.
