Reflecting fountain
Alperia, Merano
Description
The majestic reflecting fountain that complements Alperia's new headquarters in Merano is designed by Forme d'Acqua. The company oversaw both the MEP design and construction of the project, creating a dramatic element that enhances and harmoniously unites the complex's two main buildings: the new Alperia headquarters and the Edyna headquarters.
These two separate buildings, conceived as a coherent whole, are connected in the basement by a large parking lot. Above this underground volume extends a 3,000-square-meter body of water, 50 meters long and 55 meters wide, reflecting the buildings, creating a visual effect of lightness and suspension. Alperia occupies the central position with a 22-meter-high elliptical building, while Edyna, extending horizontally across two floors, surrounds it until reaching the edges of the lot.
The fountain, made of slate-colored PVC-coated concrete, leverages the material's dark hue to amplify the water's reflective properties. The pool is 30 cm deep, with a constant water level of 25 cm. Two trees, planted in the basement, emerge through the water's surface thanks to two overflow and storage pools integrated into the landscape and hydraulic design, creating a direct connection between nature, architecture, and technology.
Lighting plays a fundamental role in enhancing the presence of the water and its interactions with the architectural elements. The overflow pools are internally illuminated by a perimeter White LED bar, designed with a 100-degree beam angle, enhancing their geometry and the effect of moving water. The two piers crossing the pool, leading to the building entrances, are also equipped with integrated LED lighting, ensuring visual and functional continuity even in the evening hours.
In terms of plant engineering, the filtration system consists of four pumps and four filters, controlled by two EMEC panels. Water recirculation is ensured by four additional pumps and twenty-four bottom nozzles, ensuring uniform and constant distribution of the water flow. Furthermore, a dechlorination system is activated every time the water is flushed, thus helping to preserve the environment.
The architectural project, designed by Cecchetto & Associati, and specifically by architect Alberto Cecchetto, aims to represent Alperia's identity and strategic vision through a symbolic, sustainable, and replicable architecture. Water is interpreted as a primary element, a metaphor for clean energy and a natural resource, central to the company's vision.
The entire complex is designed with great attention to energy savings and technological optimisation and has achieved the prestigious LEED Platinum certification.
A project that combines technology, architecture, and nature, in a balance that reflects Alperia's mission: putting energy at the service of the environment.
