Pillars of Water
COIN, Milan

Description
The architects behind the refurbishment of the COIN department store in Milan were keen to include a fountain on the “home and wellbeing” floor.
They requested: peaceful, relaxing water; clean, simple lines; transparent glass; and warm light.
The setting was rather problematic, with an escalator in the background and a column in the middle. Working with the architect S. M. Favrin, we integrated everything and proposed four columns on one pool of water: three were smaller and more restrained, while the fourth was broader and had backlit white glass inserts. The water spills over the top and flows slowly down the sides back into the tank. The most prominent column is in a surface made of small backlit white glass panels. The filtration and circulation systems are automatic, silent and odourless.
