The Libyan economy suffered a heavy blow during the conflict in 2011, when oil exports came to an almost complete halt. Although the political situation is still unstable (as of March 2013), after the downturn in 2011 (-28%), the economy is estimated to have grown by 28.8% in 2012 and the positive trend should now continue, with stable growth of around 10% for the next 4 or 5 years (according to EIU figures). It will be supported both by the return of oil exports to the pre-conflict levels and by the foreign capital that the government wants to attract by carrying out the necessary task of consolidating the stability of the country. This is demonstrated by Libya Build, an important construction fair that is now establishing itself in a new, well-organized exhibition centre. There are positive trends in the numbers of both exhibitors and visitors.
This year Forme d’Acqua’s mission will be limited to visiting the fair, but we may decide to join the exhibitors as early as 2014.
