Forme d’Acqua at The Venice Glass Week 2018

The Venice Glass Week, the international festival dedicated to glass art, will take place from 9 to 16 of September in Venice Murano and Mestre.

The initiative is promoted by the City of Venice, and conceived by three of the main Venetian cultural institutions that work on the theme: Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, and the most important glass promotion association, the Consorzio Promovetro Murano.

This year there are 150 participants and 180 events, 20% more than the first edition. Hundreds were the admissions received which have been selected by the scientific committee, introduced this year, chaired by the glass scholar Rosa Barovier Mentasti, and composed by critics and curators Chiara Bertola and Jean Blanchaert, journalist Uta Klotz and chemist and University professor expert in the composition of vitreous materials, Marco Verità.

Among this edition’s new features, an information point in Campo Santo Stefano, a ACTV vaporetto dedicated to The Venice Glass Week and also the new The Venice Glass Week Hub, at Palazzo Querini, the exhibition heart of the festival.

At the press conference, representing the founding committee of the event, among the others, the council member of the City of Venice Paola Mar, the director of the MUVE Foundation, Gabriella Belli, the President of the Consorzio Promovetro Murano, Luciano Gambaro, the Chancellor of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, Giovanna Palandri, and the General Secretary of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, Pasquale Gagliardi.

Forme d’Acqua is participating also this year at The Venice Glass Week, with two projects, born from our passion for a noble material, versatile and strongly linked to our Venetian identity: Murano glass.

The two projects were designed by architect Simona M. Favrin, who has worked with Forme d’Acqua for many years and shares with us the passion for water and glass as design elements often present in our artistic fountains for their expressive power.

Luxury is an elegant and essential fountain, which finds its essence in the precious presence of Murano glass. Composed of a stainless steel structure, it is characterized by a series of thin hollow rods, from whose tops a subtle stream of water flows, silently and calmly sliding along the rods themselves, wrapping in its path the Murano glass beads, handmade with the lampwork technique.

Luxury is a luxurious fountain, whose elegance is represented by the purity of its lines and its precious materials.

Luxury has been selected to be exhibited at The Venice Glass Week Hub, at Palazzo Querini, Calle San Barnaba – Dorsoduro 2691, every day from 10 am to 6 pm

CONTROCORRENTE is the name of the second project born from the collaboration between Forme d’Acqua and Nicola Moretti, glassmaster from Murano, who comes from one of the most historic and important families of the island, and is a great expert in Murrino glass and glass fusing technique.

In CONTROCORRENTE colourful glass fishes defy the current, in a tenacious fight against gravity: it is a tribute to resilience, in life above all, and in glass.

The work, conceived by Simona Favrin, is made of Murano glass by maestro Nicola Moretti, using the traditional techniques of Murano artistic glass, with canes and murrino glass, revisited in a contemporary key through the experimentation that has always characterized his work.

CONTROCORRENTE is part of the MuranoGlass – Beyond the Barricades initiative, which intends to give a positive connotation and a high artistic value to an object of common use in our cities, the reinforced barriers (“Jersey”), which in recent years have also assumed the role of counter-terrorism deterrents, setting them up and turning them into works of art.
CONTROCORRENTE will be exhibited at the Bugno Art Gallery, in Venice.

ImmagineNicola-Moretti-ridimensionata

For this year’s The Venice Glass Week the collaboration of Forme d’Acqua with Simona M. Favrin and Nicola Moretti is renewed, the very same collaboration which led to the creation of Il Mostro della Laguna, the collective work of art, with a technological heart, which combines the beauty of artistic glass with sound, light and water, managed by an innovative home automation system.
A fascinating adventure that brought “the Monster of the Lagoon” on a traveling exhibition in many important Italian exhibition venues, until reaching the Basilica Cistern of Istanbul, becoming the only art work ever exhibited in its historic waters.
